Alsomitra, fluffy glider, walking glider
Plants are devising how to expand their habitat. There are many seeds that fly and move, but Alsomitra flies like a glider. It is often taken up as a science teaching material because of its good balance. Please see the situation from the link below.
Experiment 1: Make a fluffy glider and a walking glider
you need : styrene paper, paper pattern, scissors, vinyl tape
Download the paper pattern and cut it to fit the styrofoam paper. Bend the front of the wing down and the back up. Put a weight on the front and fly it lightly to fly slowly.
Of course, it is important to make it according to the pattern, but if you use a triangular glider, you can make it symmetrical and easy to make. Please try to make it using the surplus scraps. If you reduce the size, the mass ratio will increase compared to the area, so it will descend faster.
It's fun enough to just fly, but if you walk from behind with a slightly larger cardboard to hit the updraft, the glider will continue to fly.
Experiment 2: Walking glider without styrene paper
you need : Phonebook paper, calligraphy, tracing paper, paper pattern
This is called a tumblewing glider and descends while spinning. At this time, if you continue to send the updraft from behind with the board as in Experiment 1, it will move forward while rotating. When making small things, use as light and strong paper as possible. I used tracing paper for the largest one and calligraphy for the latter one. Please try various ideas. Phonebook paper is said to be the best, but not recently. The PDF below also describes how to make it in detail.
