Kaleidoscope & super easy kaleidoscope with cellophane tape

Please see the polarizing plate experiment (separate page) along with this experiment.

Experiment 1: Let's make a polarizing plate kaleidoscope using cellophane tape

you need : 2 polarizing plates, 2 paper cups, cellophane tape

First of all, make a hole in the paper cup and attach the polarizing plate. Next, put several layers of cellophane tape on the plastic plate. Please draw a picture there. Then, depending on the location, peel off the cellophane tape to change the thickness.

Place the picture you made between the two paper cups and rotate the outer paper cup. It will be a beautiful kaleidoscope.

The photo on the left shows the handle of the mirror sandwiched between polarizing plates. The way light passes changes depending on how the force is applied when molding.

Scotch tape will cause a phase shift in the light passing through order to prolong the time to make. This shift intensifies certain light, causing tapes of this thickness to appear blue. And when passing through the second polarizing plate, the color becomes colorful. The force applied when making things also intensifies a specific light. We do this when we check the quality of our products.

Experiment 2: It doesn't cost money! Let's make a super easy kaleidoscope

you need : Toilet paper core 1/2, side dish lid (transparent and large), black drawing paper, cellophane tape

The biggest problem in making a kaleidoscope is the price of the mirror. It is the production of the part that makes the geometric pattern. As a substitute, use the transparent lid of the supermarket side dish and black drawing paper. First, fold the plastic lid into a triangular pillar with a width of 3.2 cm (when the diameter of the toilet paper core is 4 cm). Cover it with black drawing paper. Make various holes in 6 cm square drawing paper and paste cellophane paper. You can change the geometric pattern by sandwiching it with plastic.
